Of course, Hollywood staged those events, so season with a grain of salt. After dominating last year’s Oscars and generating a healthy dose of controversy, biopics and dramas based on true events will again rule the multiplex and revive the debate over whether the film industry needs to get its facts straight. Captain Phillips, the documentary-style feature about the 2009 hijacking of an American cargo ship by Somali pirates, opens Friday and already is generating headlines.
“(He’s) one of the most important and infamous kingpin pirate leaders, responsible for the hijacking of dozens of commercial vessels from 2008 to 2013,” Delmulle said. Abdi Hassan whose nickname, Afweyne, means “Big Mouth” was charged with hijacking the Belgian dredger Pompei and kidnapping its nine-member crew in 2009, Delmulle said. The Pompei’s crew was released after 10 weeks in captivity when the ship’s owner paid a reported $3 million ransom. Belgium caught two pirates involved in the hijacking, convicted them and sentenced them to nine and 10 years in prison. But prosecutors still wanted the ringleaders. “Too often, these people remain beyond reach while they let others do the dirty work,” Delmulle told reporters. Malaysian authorities almost captured the reclusive Adbi Hassan in April 2012, but a document from the Somali transitional government let him slip back home, according to a U.N. report last year that called him “one of the most notorious and influential” leaders of a piracy ring that has netted millions in ransom. So Belgian authorities decided to go undercover to get him, because they knew he traveled very little and that an international arrest warrant would produce no results in unstable Somalia. They approached an accomplice known as Tiiceey, dangling a fake job as an adviser to a fake movie about piracy, Delmulle said. The two men took the bait.

They should try to keep things as quiet as possible, which of course is hard to do when you live your life in the world of reality TV. Also read: Kardashian Empire Fractured: Kris and Bruce Jenner Confirm Separation The way they made their announcement shows that they intend to do it gracefully. It was good that they made a point of stressing all the time they had been together and that they were most concerned about their children. It showed they want to do this in a mature way and I fully expect them to. Is it harder to break-up when your whole life is the subject of a reality show? Im always amazed people would choose to live their lives on film, so I would imagine its very difficult for anybody to do in those circumstances. For me, I dont participate in the filming when I represent a reality show star in a case, because that would mean waiving my right to attorney-client privilege and that would hamper my ability to mount an effective case. How is your job different when youre representing a big name celebrity than it is when youre advocating for a private citizen? The only thing thats different between high profile or celebrity divorces is that you have to do all you can to keep your client and the details out of the media. Does timing become more important if youre representing a movie star who has a lot of professional projects theyre dealing with or a media executive who may be about to get that promotion? In those cases its very important that something becomes public at the right time. Often people will wait if they have a new movie thats about to come out or for whatever reason they dont want the media distraction. It doesnt matter to me what the timing is, and Im always happy to work with a manager, a publicist or a business manager to find the best time. What I wont do is work entirely with a persons assistant. Ive had people have their office managers call me up and say, so-and-so is really busy, so just have the papers ready for him to sign. That doesnt work for me.
